The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) team in a permanent full-time leadership role.
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a clinical leadership position and influence the delivery of exceptional perioperative care.
You will play a vital role in leading the front-line team, acting as a clinical expert, role model, and mentor. This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with PACU experience who is ready to take on a meaningful leadership role in a busy perioperative setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical expertise and act as a resource for nursing staff within PACU and Day of Surgery Admission (DOSA).
- Support, mentor, and supervise staff to ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based care.
- Lead by example to foster a strong culture of teamwork, respect, and excellence.
- Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement activities aligned with hospital priorities.
- Ensure patient care is delivered to the highest standards in accordance with legislative requirements and professional guidelines.
About You
You are a dynamic and experienced Registered Nurse with a strong background in perioperative nursing, particularly in PACU. You are passionate about patient care and staff development, and you’re ready to grow your leadership capabilities in a supportive environment.
Essential Criteria:
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in perioperative nursing (PACU, General Surgery, or Orthopaedics preferred).
- Proven ability to assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate patient care.
- Strong clinical decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of professional scope of practice, relevant regulations, and quality improvement processes.
- Flexibility to work a rotating 7-day roster, including the on-call schedule.
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative Nursing.
- Previous experience in a clinical leadership, preceptorship, or education role.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent qualifications in nursing education.
- Completion of a Preceptorship Program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic digital health systems.
