The Opportunity

Westmead Private Hospital is seeking an experienced and passionate Midwife to lead our Birth Suite as Nurse Unit Manager. This pivotal role requires a seasoned professional, ready to drive continuous improvement and foster a culture of excellence in woman-centred care. You will lead a dedicated multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, fostering a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, and compassionate care in line with Ramsay’s philosophy of People Caring for People.

 

About the Role

As the Birth Suite Nurse Unit Manager, you will be responsible for the effective operational, clinical, and strategic management of the unit. Your role will include:

  • Accountability for the efficient and effective management of human, financial, and material resources
  • Providing strong clinical leadership, mentorship, and professional support to nursing and midwifery staff
  • Promoting a positive, engaged, and high-performing team culture
  • Collaborating with VMOs and senior leaders to achieve excellence in patient outcomes
  • Supporting and partnering with other hospital managers to deliver organisational objectives
  • Contributing to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and organisational strategy
  • Ensuring high standards of patient care, safety, and customer service at all times.

 

Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, you will be an inspiring, approachable and experienced leader with a passion for developing people and delivering exceptional maternity care. You will demonstrate strong operational awareness, sound clinical judgement, and the ability to lead through change.

You will also bring:

  • Current registration with AHPRA
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Birth Suite/Maternity Services
  • Demonstrated minimum 3 years’ recent experience in leadership in Birth Suite/Maternity services
  • Proven clinical leadership capability
  • Experience or exposure to staff recruitment, rostering, and performance management
  • Confidence in delegation, decision-making, and managing patient flow
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead by example, instilling a culture of care, professionalism, and innovation.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Midwifery
  • Management qualifications
  • Experience in policy development
