The Opportunity
This newly created role provides an opportunity to shape Ramsay Health Care’s policy position on private sector healthcare reform at a national level. Reporting to the Head of Government Relations and Health Policy, the Senior Policy Adviser will lead policy development, conduct detailed research, and prepare high-quality submissions for government and parliamentary processes. Working closely with teams across Strategy, Clinical Governance, Operations, and Hospital Leadership, the role ensures Ramsay’s advocacy is evidence-based, grounded in operational realities, and aligned to our commitment to safe, high-quality patient care. You will also help strengthen Ramsay’s reputation as a credible and trusted contributor to national health policy discussions.
What You Will Bring
You bring a strong understanding of Commonwealth and State policy and legislative processes, with experience preparing clear, high-quality briefings, submissions, and strategic advice for senior executives, boards, or ministers. You can translate complex clinical, financial, and operational issues into practical and credible policy positions, and have worked within or alongside government, health services, peak bodies, or other complex organisations. With well-developed analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, you build trusted relationships across government, academia, and industry, and operate with sound judgement, discretion, and a collaborative, values-aligned approach.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the development of clear, evidence-based policy positions aligned to Ramsay’s strategy and values
- Monitor and analyse legislative, regulatory, funding, and policy developments across Commonwealth and State jurisdictions
- Prepare high-quality policy papers, submissions, briefs, and responses to government consultations
- Provide authoritative advice to senior executives to inform strategy, investment, and service transformation
- Support executive engagement in parliamentary inquiries, ministerial meetings, advisory groups, and sector forums
- Identify emerging policy risks and opportunities and develop proactive, coordinated responses
- Coordinate advocacy initiatives, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with brand and governance requirements
- Maintain policy governance, including approval processes, documentation, and forward planning of key policy milestones
Skills & Education
- Tertiary qualifications in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Health Administration, Economics, or a related discipline
- Postgraduate qualifications in Health Policy, Health Economics, or Public Administration (highly regarded)
- Understanding of Australia’s private healthcare system, including funding, regulation, and hospital operations
- Experience across intersecting policy areas such as workforce, digital health, AI, productivity, safety and quality, and system reform
- Professional development in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, governance, or strategic communications
