The Opportunity

The Operating Theatre Robotic Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and operational oversight of the surgical robotics program within the Operating Theatres. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high‑quality delivery of robotic-assisted surgery by providing clinical expertise, workflow management, staff training, equipment stewardship, and multidisciplinary communication across surgical, nursing, and biomedical teams.

The Robotic Coordinator supports the ongoing development, evaluation, and optimisation of the robotic service.

 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Coordination

  • Coordinate and support all robotic-assisted surgical lists, ensuring effective theatre preparation, set‑up, and turnaround.

Program & Workflow Management

  • Develop and manage theatre workflows that optimise robotic efficiency and case throughput.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff to schedule robotic lists and support equitable access across specialties.
  • Monitor case volume, equipment utilisation, and instrument lifecycle to support service planning.

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Oversee daily functionality, readiness, and maintenance of robotic systems and associated equipment.
  • Liaise with biomedical engineering and vendor representatives for servicing, repairs, and software updates.
  • Maintain inventory, stock levels, and instrument tracking for robotic trays and consumables.

Education & Competency Development

  • Support surgeons in new technology adoption and system upgrades.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive education plans, simulation activities, competency frameworks, and training resources tailored to staff at various skill levels.

Governance, Quality & Safety

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives related to robotic-assisted surgery, including audit, incident review, and patient safety programs.
  • Contribute to accreditation requirements, policy development, and evidence‑based practice.
  • Provide regular activity reports, data summaries, and recommendations to management.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered Nurse with AHPRA registration.
  • At least 5 years perioperative experience, and cross-surgical specialty robotic experience.
  • Understanding of robotic platforms, instrument tracking, consumable use, and compliance with manufacturer and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrated expertise in theatre workflows and advanced surgical technologies.
  • Training or certification in robotic surgery (e.g., vendor-based education) is highly desirable.
