The Opportunity

The Head of Learning will lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive learning and development strategy for Ramsay Health Care, aligning with our mission to deliver exceptional care, prioritise patient safety, and improve clinical outcomes. This role will manage all aspects of learning, including clinical training, professional development, and compliance across the organisation. A key focus will be fostering a culture of continuous learning, ensuring that our team is equipped with the skills necessary to adapt to the dynamic healthcare landscape.

What You’ll Do

Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive learning and development strategy aligned with Ramsay’s clinical, operational, and strategic goals.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of learning and development programs across all levels of the organisation, meeting compliance and regulatory requirements, and improving staff capability.
  • Ensure programs are evidence-based, up-to-date, and aligned with best practices in healthcare.
  • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary team of learning professionals, instructional designers, and coordinators.
  • Partner with senior leadership to ensure that learning initiatives support their needs and align with the overall strategic direction of the organisation.
  • Develop and promote a culture of lifelong learning, continuous improvement, and high performance across Ramsay.
  • Collaborate with business areas to identify critical training needs, particularly in response to new technologies, procedures, or changes in patient care standards.
  • Leverage cutting-edge learning technologies (e.g., eLearning, virtual classrooms, simulation-based training) to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of training programs.
  • Foster strong relationships with clinical and corporate departments, HR, and operational teams in order to deliver learner-centric solutions.
  • Manage the budget for the Learning and Development function, ensuring efficient use of resources while delivering high-impact training solutions.

What You’ll Bring

  • Extensive experience and expertise in contemporary learning and development theories and practices, including adult learning principles, instructional design, needs analysis, and evaluating learning effectiveness.
  • Proficient in learning technologies, systems (LMS platforms), and tools.
  • Proven experience in leading large-scale learning programs across a specialized and geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Strong systems thinking with the ability to simplify complexity, navigate uncertainty, and remain agile to deliver results.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management abilities, including business case development, budget management, and contract negotiations with external vendors.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Proven track record in leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Capable of balancing strategic direction with execution, considering both immediate tactical and long-term impacts.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.

Desirable

  • Experience in a healthcare setting, including clinical training, knowledge of healthcare training regulations, accreditation standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Postgraduate degree or equivalent in a related field.
