In this role, you will play a key part in shaping Australia’s future coding workforce through "CodeXcel", our national trainee program. You will support trainees, new graduates, and early-career coders to build strong foundations, accelerate their development, and thrive in their coding career.

About the Role
As a Clinical Coding Educator, you will:
• Design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality coding education programs for clinicians, coders, and health information staff across Australia.
• Provide expert advice on ACS, ICD-10-AM/ACHI coding standards and support accurate, consistent, and timely clinical coding.
• Conduct coding audits, identify knowledge gaps, and develop targeted training solutions.
• Contribute to national initiatives, guidelines, and quality improvement projects.
• Support the professional development of coding teams through mentoring and competency assessments.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including hospitals, government departments, and health services, to promote best-practice coding and documentation standards.
About You
To be a successful candidate you will have:
• Minimum 5 years of full-time equivalent clinical coding experience in a tertiary or secondary hospital;
• Completed a Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) Clinical Coding Course or equivalent
• Strong understanding of casemix and Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG);
• Demonstrated good understanding of anatomy, physiology, diseases, and pathological processes
• Demonstrated experience delivering training, mentoring, or education programs (formal or informal).
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex coding principles in a clear and engaging way.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a quality-focused mindset.
• The ability to work independently within a national team, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
• High levels of professionalism and a commitment to continuous learning.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement activities
Candidates who have completed their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent) and have demonstrated ability to develop and implement Clinical Coding training programs will be desirable.
