About the Role

The ANUM / Theatre Floor Coordinator provides strong clinical and operational leadership within Perioperative Services. Working closely with the Perioperative Nurse Unit Managers, this role supports the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while ensuring organisational performance objectives are achieved.

The position is responsible for coordinating daily theatre operations, including theatre allocations, roster management, and skill mix optimisation. You will oversee patient flow and theatre utilisation, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery across the perioperative environment. The role also involves monitoring and managing clinical risk, including timely escalation of issues and oversight of incident reporting and RiskMan processes.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring confident decision-making, strong situational awareness, and the ability to balance patient safety, workforce capability, and operational performance. The ANUM provides visible leadership on the floor, manages competing priorities, supports staff performance and engagement, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and accreditation readiness.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and operational leadership across Perioperative Services.
  • Coordinate daily theatre operations, including allocations, staffing, and workflow management.
  • Optimise patient flow and theatre utilisation to meet key performance indicators.
  • Escalate and manage clinical risks appropriately, including oversight of incident reporting processes.
  • Lead initiatives to improve surgical workflows, patient safety, and infection control practices.
  • Mentor and support nursing staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage staff performance and behaviour proactively and constructively, in line with organisational standards.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally across multidisciplinary teams, particularly in complex or high-pressure situations.
  • Monitor clinical performance indicators and implement evidence-based improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
  • Minimum five years’ perioperative nursing experience, including at least two years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in perioperative nursing, clinical leadership, or healthcare management (desirable).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage change, drive quality improvement, and maintain strong clinical governance.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven capability to manage performance and behavioural matters fairly, consistently, and with accountability.

 

Remuneration: On offer is base hourly rate ranging from $62.29 + superannuation based on experience level and qualifications, exclusive of penalties or allowances.
